Initial Reaction to this vegan beauty item:

I had high hopes for this new vegan beauty item. It has countless great reviews, it has a clean beauty certification, and it claims to be lengthening, volumizing, & long wearing.

I think it’s important to try and wear as much clean beauty as possible & anything that goes around the eyes should be top priority.

So needless to say, I was excited to try this mascara out and to see what all of the hype was about.

Usage:

The formula is thick, let me just start with that. If you’ve ever tried Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara, it’s kind of like that but on a rubber spoolie instead of brush fibres.

The thing is, I really like the application of Better Than Sex so I had high hopes that this would be a cleaner version of something I already love.

My Lash Concerns:

  • My lash tips are blonde so anything that will make them look longer
  • I like a slight lift but nothing too dramatic
  • I don’t like my lashes to clump together

Results:

With a little, or a lot rather, of finessing, I was able to get this mascara to a place that I was happy with. The problem is, there are so many great mascaras out there that don’t need an extra finesse. So spending all of that extra time seems silly.

To get it where I like it, I took a disposable mascara wand & rubbed it along the Lawless wand. This allowed me to pick up far less mascara that’s on the applicator wand allowing for a cleaner & less clumpy application.

You can also use the Lawless wand and just wipe off the excess in the mascara tubes opening. But, you’ll probably still want to have a clean spoolie to help separate your lashes after.

Final Thoughts:

Honestly, I really wanted to love this because;

  1. It’s Vegan & Cruelty Free
  2. It’s Clean Beauty
  3. It’s made w. Recyclable Packaging
  4. It seemed like a Clean dupe for Better Than Sex

But unfortunately, this mascara fell short. There is way too much product on the applicator spoolie. It is hard to clean it off and keep the packaging looking nice. The formula does lengthen but it clumps your lashes together so I don’t think it’s volumizing.

I think that if they switched to an old school application wand this formula would perform much better.

Also, as you can see in the photo above, later that day the mascara was quite smudgey , flakey & just did not hold up all day long.

Will I Re-Purchase?

I don’t think so 😥. There are just better performing options out there.

Where to Buy this vegan beauty item?

Remember, every person is different & this might be your go-to die-hard mascara and that is ok! What works for you might not work for me & vice-versa. So please, test things out on your own and just use my years of experience with products and my opinion as something to keep an eye out for, that’s all.

And this is by no means any shade to Lawless, they make some incredible clean vegan makeup!

A final note:

Lawless is 100% Cruelty Free but not all of their items are vegan. You can easily find all of their vegan items by either, reading the ingredients list & looking for the clearly labelled vegan note OR by simply typing in Vegan in the search bar on their site. All of their vegan products will then be displayed.

I believe that the only items that aren’t vegan are their eyeshadow palettes.
