It’s National Pizza Day on February 9th 2021 and I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to share with you all one of my absolute favourite foods. I wanted to showcase all of the amazing vegan pizza that I have devoured along my travels. Some of these vegan pizzas are local to me while many can possibly be found near you!

Vegan pizza has come a long freaken way! 20 years ago I would have had to make sure the dough had no eggs & that there was absolutely no cheese on the pizza. So basically my vegan pizzas 20 years ago were bread, marinara, green olives & mushrooms haha. While still tasty, they’re nothing compared to these glorious vegan pizzas from around the world that I’m about to show you.

Get ready for that tummy of yours to start growling haha…

Best Vegan Pizza:

Paris: Janine Loves Sunday (RIP)

Even though this amazing vegan restaurant is no more, I had to include it in this list. Paris has so much to offer the vegan community and you can still find plenty of vegan pizzas around the city. This place just happened to be incredible and I’m sad to see them go.

Runner-up:

Toronto: Il Fornello

Il Fornello makes some of the most delicious wood burning oven pizzas around! They nail a thin yet bubbly crust. And their vegan cheese is next level yummy.

Best Vegan Junk Food Pizza:

NYC: Screamer’s

Screamer’s was one of the first Vegan Pizza joints that I was able to walk through the door, go to the counter & order a full vegan pizza to go! That was a pretty cool experience for this vegan right here haha. Checkout my article on the Best Vegan Restaurants of New York City to see a more detailed review of this place.

Runner-up:

Toronto: Apiecalypse Now (RIP)

Unfortunately the pandemic took another wonderful business. Recently, Apiecalypse Now announced that they were not able to keep going through Covid and would be shutting their doors. These guys had some of the best most junk food worthy pizza toppings around. They were one of the first to do a vegan Big Mac style pizza and it was delicious.

Best Vegan Pizza w. Good Atmosphere:

NYC: Double Zero

Double Zero is a beautiful spot to go on beautiful sweet dates. Whenever I’m in New York my husband and I always try to make a stop here at Double Zero. They have a wood burning oven and a gorgeous wine wall, perfect for a romantic little vegan date.

Runner-up:

Madrid: Pura Vida Vegan Bar

Here we have another incredible vegan joint with unbelievably tasty pizza. This restaurant has a fun cozy atmosphere with a great wine bar. The pizza crust is delicious & their ingredients are fresh.

Best Fast-Food Vegan Pizza (Delivery):

Pizza Pizza

If you’re looking for quick, don’t have to think about it, feed my family/have no time to make anything; well then you can’t go wrong with Pizza Pizza’s vegan pizza options. They taste just like Pizza Pizza pizza but without the cruel toppings, yay!

Runner-up:

Pizzaiolo

This photo doesn’t do Pizzaiolo justice haha. I recommend checking out this link to see their awesome range of vegan pizza options. When I first started eating at Pizzaiolo they had one accidentally vegan pizza on their menu, now, they have 8 vegan pizza options.

Honourable Mentions:

NYC: Blossom (RIP)

This restaurant was incredible. I’m sorry to see it go. Another fun vegan date spot gone.

Burlington: Boon Burger

Don’t let the name fool you, while their burgers are deadly, their pizzas are just as delicious.

Hamilton: Rise Above

These guys make some big pizzas. Their pizzas are a similar style to Pizza Pizza but with Rise Above you’re supporting a completely vegan business. The atmosphere is pretty cool here too, they have some fun pinball machines and a little bar area to order drinks.

Toronto: Virtuous Pie (RIP)

I’m sad to see these guys go too but the pandemic is real and it’s hurt a lot of small businesses. I loved the laid back atmosphere.

Toronto: Away (RIP)

I just wanted to include these guys because their vegan pizzas were next level. And while restaurants come and go, it is so incredible to see more and more vegan restaurants popping up all over the world.

I hope you get to enjoy a delicious vegan pizza for this year’s National Pizza Day. Let me know your fav vegan pizza joints in the comments down below so I can be sure to check them out!
