If you have been following along with my vegan travel posts, well then you know that finding the best vegan restaurants is my absolute favourite thing to do! I’ve also come to discover that Toronto has some of the best vegan restos in the world. Lucky for me, I don’t have to travel very far in order to taste all of what the Toronto vegan scene has to offer.

And because I live here, I can frequent these restaurants enough times to be able to give a fair assessment. So here they are…

Toronto’s 6 Best Vegan Restaurants – Vegan Travel

1. Planta Queen –

(180 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5V 3X3)

I listed Planta Queen first for two reasons; 1. I could eat here anytime, any day, & every day and… 2. because it is probably the most expensive and more “fine” dining than the rest. Although, it’s not fine dining or formal at all. You can wear whatever you want really.

Planta Queen is also perfect for large group parties like birthdays, holiday gatherings, and even small intimate date nights.

Atmosphere: This place is sleek. Lot’s of velvet textured booths, dim intimate lighting with an industrial asian flair.

The Food: I have yet to be disappointed with anything I’ve ever ordered here. The menu isn’t massive but it’s not tiny either. They have a perfect selection of sushi, woks & noodle options, small plates, dumplings and some chilled & raw. It is a little more on the expensive side which is why this place is so great for special occasions.

Get The: Oh man this is a hard one, I tend to order sooo much when I’m there as the plates aren’t massive & I’m usually sharing with my husband but… Definitely try the Spinach Shiitake Dumplings & the Bang Bang Broccoli.

Overall Rating: 5/5 – This is one of my favourite vegan restaurants ever!

2. Rosalinda –

(133 Richmond St W. Toronto, ON M5H 2L3)

Aesthetically, this place is my perfect haven. It is absolutely gorgeous inside. It is almost like having dinner in a giant glass greenhouse with plants hanging from the ceiling and beautiful soft velvet jewel tones on the booths. I’d live here if I could.

Atmosphere: This place is casual chic. You could totally come in here in your workout clothes or a cute date ensemble. The vibe is super chill but also kinda glam.

The Food: Delicious & always so fresh Spanish/Mexican inspired dishes. Everything, including their drinks, are made with pure intention and perfection. The flavours of everything are incredible! Also on the pricier side but I never mind paying more when the atmosphere and the food quality are so top notch.

Get The: If they have them, get the Chilaquiles, they are incredible!!! And their tacos are super delicious too.

Overall Rating: 5/5 – I told you all, this is my 6 Fav Vegan Restaurants in Toronto. Don’t be surprised if they’re all 5 stars 🤪

3. Fresh Restaurants –

(9 Locations – MY fav is the one on Front st.)

Fresh Restaurants was one of the very first vegan restaurants in Toronto. In fact, Fresh started as a small juice & smoothie bar before it turned into this amazing vegan staple & chain.

Atmosphere: Depending on the location you go to you might feel a little more inclined to dress up, if you wanted to. There is no dress code & like Rosalinda, you could come in your gym clothes or you could wear something trendy & cute. Some of the newer, more recently renovated locations are quite chic. They have a very fresh soft glamorous look with a mod earthy twist.

The Food: Well, they’re not called Fresh Restaurants for nothing! Fresh’s food tends to be just that, FRESH! Now of course they have indulgent food like the Beyond Cheeseburger, Pizzas, & Fries but for the most part, their food is just filled with good healthy nutrient rich ingredients. Think big power bowls & salads and delicious soups of the day and massive packed wraps.

Get The: I have two menu items that I switch between, the Beyond Cheeseburger w. fries or the Goddess Bowl on Soba Noodles. Cannot go wrong with either of those.

Overall Rating: 4/5 – It pains me to take a point off but the one thing they absolutely have to work on is, their consistency. Sometimes, depending on the chef, location, time of day, the food can sometimes feel like it wasn’t made with “love” if you know what I mean. Sometimes the dishes are on another level, even when its takeout. And then other times things can be missing, like certain nuts or a missed note like, no cilantro, etc.

4. King’s Vegetarian –

(192 Augusta Ave. Toronto, ON M5T 2L6 – Kensington Market)

This resto is so freaken special! The owners are so sweet and friendly, everytime I walk in they have the biggest cutest smiles (pre-covid) and they wave hello. My husband and I used to frequent so often that they knew exactly what we were ordering each time haha.

Atmosphere: Chill! Completely casual and good for the whole family. They have one big round table near the back of the resto and it’s always fun to see or to host gatherings on that one. They also run a mini shop out of the restaurant where you can buy some of their vegan food products.

The Food: I don’t think I’ve been disappointed with their food quality once. They make the most delicious Chinese, Japanese, & Indian inspired dishes. Another awesome thing about King’s, their portions are great and the pricing is super affordable.

Get The: We get the same thing every time so if you’re hungry get the Vegetable Fried Rice, The Mixed Vegetable Soup, & The Fried Green Beans. I’m drooling.

Overall Rating: 5/5 – it’s perfect just the way it is.

5. Hogtown Vegan –

(382 College St, Toronto ON)

When I was living right in Toronto, this was my go-to spot. All of my friends and I loooooved to go here together. They always played good music and made the best greasy vegan comfort food.

Atmosphere: This place is just cool. They don’t even have to try they just are haha. The servers are always friendly and nice but they’re always just super cool too. They play motown and classic rock and their colour is a bold teal shade that always reminds me of one of my dearest friends. She painted her apartments in the same colour pretty much.

The Food: DEADLY! Seriously deadly. They are known for making some of the best Southern Vegan Comfort Food. They’ve got Vegan Chicken & Waffles with Collard Greens, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Chili Cheez Fries and so much more. The servings are huge and the pricing is reasonable.

Get The: Honestly, their vegan crispy chicken is some of the best I’ve ever had so I always get something chicken based like their Caesar Salad w. Crispy Chicken or the Wrap version of that. And then Their Fries Supremacy is an absolute MUST!

Overall Rating: 5/5 – This place kicks ass!

6. Vegan Danish Bakery –

(1312 Queen St. W. Toronto, ON M6K 1L4)

Yes, you read that right! An all vegan Danish Bakery!!! They make fresh croissants, bread, pies and so much more. And everything is absolutely delightful and delicious.

Atmosphere: Very posh royal glam but not in a stuffy way that makes you feel underdressed. Just in a cute themed way. They have sweet little tables & crystal or glass chandeliers and big white counters with glass display cases showcasing all of their delicious treats and sweets.

The Food: Some of the best pastries I have ever had. I’m also a sucker for breakfast sandwiches and they make some unbelievably delicious breakfast sandwiches.

Get The: You have to try their pastries so I’d say a croissant & a Danish for sure!

Overall Rating: 5/5 – I’m so happy that there’s a vegan bakery in Toronto 🙌
