Initial Reaction: It’s so pretty! And, it’s so big! This cookbook is bright with beautifully shot photographs from cover to cover. I love physical hardcopy cookbooks. I love the way they smell, the way they feel, & I love the way they look in a bookshelf, haha. They do also have a Kindle version so if that’s more your jam then there you go!

I ordered a copy of The Blue Zones Kitchen after listening to Kimberly Snyder’s podcast with special guest; Dan Buettner. Hearing him speak about all of the recipes & his experiences travelling around the world to these Blue Zones was amazing. So I immediately ordered a copy from Amazon (this link is an affiliate link through Amazon, I am not being paid by The Blue Zones, fyi) & received it last December.

Right away I loved the book. Like I said, its bright & colourful and it has substance!

Usage: I have made a few recipes from this book now & I can’t wait to tackle more. It’s definitely safe to say that some of these recipes have made it into my staples list & have been on a bit of a weekly rotation. What I’m loving most about these recipes is that they’re simple and yet wholesome & comforting.

Claims: Best-selling author Dan Buettner debuts his first cookbook, filled with 100 longevity recipes inspired by the Blue Zones locations around the world, where people live the longest.

Building on decades of research, longevity expert Dan Buettner has gathered 100 recipes inspired by the Blue Zones, home to the healthiest and happiest communities in the world. Each dish–for example, Sardinian Herbed Lentil Minestrone; Costa Rican Hearts of Palm Ceviche; Cornmeal Waffles from Loma Linda, California; and Okinawan Sweet Potatoes–uses ingredients and cooking methods proven to increase longevity, wellness, and mental health. Complemented by mouthwatering photography, the recipes also include lifestyle tips (including the best times to eat dinner and proper portion sizes), all gleaned from countries as far away as Japan and as near as Blue Zones project cities in Texas. Innovative, easy to follow, and delicious, these healthy living recipes make the Blue Zones lifestyle even more attainable, thereby improving your health, extending your life, and filling your kitchen with happiness.”

Final Thoughts: I really love this cookbook. It has become a staple cookbook in my house. Shoving to the side my other vegan cookbooks like, The Veganomicon & Oh She Glows.

I love that this book introduces you to all of the blue zones around the world & gives you a brief history of their diets & lifestyles. It really helps to drive home the idea of healthy mindful eating.

There are 100 recipes in The Blue Zones Kitchen & they did an incredible job of showcasing nearly every recipe. I think there is only a few recipes that don’t have corresponding photos. That’s kind of one of my biggest pet peeves with cookbooks. I want to see what I’m going to be cooking so I know beforehand if it looks good, haha!
