You know how our brains always make us remember all of the joy and fun from Christmas Day but easily forget how stressful the day can be? Almost like a bad ex, you slowly start to miss them & forget about all the crap you put up with but as you start to spend time with them again you quickly remember all that crap! Well, this Christmas I’ve decided that I remember the stress and I want to just not, haha not this year!

So, this Christmas I’m going to have the most relaxing vegan Christmas Day and you can too!

First, I’m not setting an alarm. Naturally I wake up around 7am but on weekends or holidays it’s more like, 8ish? Anyways, not setting an alarm, but when I wake up I’m going to do a nice 15 minute meditation on my Balance App. If I want to have a truly relaxing day, I need to make sure I mentally feel relaxed too.

Directly after that I will do a 5-minute brain dump. This way, whatever is stressing me out or weighing heavy on my mind will be expressed & managed right from the beginning of my day. Then I can compartmentalize it and let it go, at least for one day anyways.

After that, I’m probably going to do a stretchy yoga like a yin type of yoga. Or Yoga With Adriene’s recommended video of the day. Looks like this one is geared for relaxation too, “Give the Gift of Relaxation”. If you’re a partaker in the CBD/Cannabis world, a small amount of an Indica strain could make this practice even more chill & mellow.

Now that I’m all stretched out & feeling real nice, I think I’ll have a nice warm bubble bath. Ooh and I’ll use one of my fav bath bombs. Check out my article on Vegan Wellness Gift Ideas for my fav bath bomb recommendations. I love a good warm bath with calming music playing in the background, a lightly scented candle or a eucalyptus blend diffuser, depending on the time a glass of wine & a good book, le sigh!

If I haven’t melted into relaxation bliss, I’ll get out of the tub, put on my coziest PJs, throw on my robe & some super fluffy slippers or big comfy reading socks (I practically live in reading socks haha).

Next up, BREAKFAST! An easy, comforting & yummy vegan breakfast, tofu scramble with refried beans, an everything bagel, grape tomatoes & a Beyond Meat Bratwurst Sausage. I’m getting hungry thinking about it. This meal is so simple to make. Fry the sausage in a non-stick until it’s crispy on the outside. Heat the refried beans in a small pot (I buy pre-made that comes in a can or box). Mash up a pack of tofu into a frying pan, add a dash of turmeric & some Kalanamak (aka black salt – really ups your scramble game) and fry that up for 5 mins or so. I love spinach so I always add a massive handful of fresh or frozen spinach and fry that with the tofu for another 10 mins. Toast your bagel, cut up your tomatoes, choose your hot sauce, serve & enjoy! (Also, avocado goes really well with this too! You can watch my process through my instagram highlights link right here.)

After breakfast I’m probably going to be quite satisfied & sleepy so an afternoon nap on the couch will be in order. While napping it’s important to have one of your favourite Christmas movies playing in the background. What are your favs? There’s a lot of bad Xmas movies out there so I’m curious which ones are your go-to’s. I swear I could/have watch/ed Elf anytime of year. That is my #1 hands down haha. Then A Christmas Story 2nd, then Home Alone 1 & 2. The Jim Carrey Grinch is also a contender. Being a Film makeup artists I can really appreciate the process he had to go through every freaken day!

Once I wake up from my little nap, it’s kind of becoming Christmas tradition to play video games with the hubby. We used to always go to the movies but we skipped it last year & it most certainly isn’t happening this year so video games it is. Normally we just play Mario Kart on our Ninetendo Switch but we also bought Mortal Kombat. I used to play that game all of the time when I was younger with my brothers. I’m not a gamer or anything but I’ve always loved them.

While we’re playing games and chilling we’re gonna need some yummy vegan snacks though. So I recommend doing a little stock up in advance. I like to have a little bit of salty & sweet. When you get salted out you gotta switch to the sweets. And then when you’re on sweets overload, its back to the savoury haha. At least that’s how I veg out.

Some of my fav vegan snacks…

1. Skinny Pop White Cheddar Popcorn

There you have it! That is my guide to having the most relaxing Christmas Day ever! Obviously if you have kids or are doing presents and dinners you can work some of this stuff around all of that to help incorporate some relaxation into your days.

Of all the years, this is the year we deserve relaxation, and that’s just facts haha!
