Dyson Airwrap Complete Styler - A Blog About Stuff - Vegan Hair Review

Price: $699.99 CAD

Initial Reaction: What can I say; my hubby bought this set for me for Christmas (we never celebrate or do gifts but we did this past year – pre covid) & I could not wait to try it out. I had previously watched some Youtube videos on the Dyson Airwrap Styler beforehand to decide if I really wanted this and to learn how to use it because it does take some practice & getting used to. When I saw how much volume people were able to create & with minimal heat damage to their hair, I decided, “I really wanted it”.

When I opened the gift & pulled it’s carrier out of it’s cardboard box I was instantly impressed. The camel coloured vegan leather case is so sleek & elegant it’s hard not to be initially impressed. It feels really solid and built well. Each piece has it’s own compartment to live in without rubbing up against the other items and risking any damage. IT IS VERY WELL MADE.

Usage: Thanks to Covid I can’t say I have really gotten much use out of it, what’s the point, haha. It’s not the quickest tool to use but once you get used to it & get a little practice, it does get easier to maneuver. I like that it dries & styles simultaneously so that speeds up some styling time.

Hair Concerns:

– blonde ends = drier ends

– thick/heavy hair = flat hair

– inconsistent straight & wavy

Claims: “No extreme heat – Intelligent heat control measures airflow temperature over 40 times a second and regulates heat, to ensure it always stays below 150°C.²

Attracts and wraps hair, using air – The Coanda effect attracts hair to the barrel, then wraps it for you. No clamping, gloves or awkward winding mechanisms. Just voluminous curls and waves.

Styles and dries simultaneously – The Dyson Airwrap™ styler combines powerful airflow with controlled heat, to dry and style your hair from damp – with no extreme heat.

Coanda to smooth – The smoothing brushes harness the Coanda effect to attract hair to the surface of the brush, propelling air along the strands, to mimic a stylist’s blow-dry technique.

30mm Airwrap™ barrels – Create and set voluminous curls or waves. With clockwise and anti-clockwise barrels for symmetrical curls.

40mm Airwrap™ barrels – Create and set loose curls or waves. With clockwise and anti-clockwise barrels for symmetrical curls.

Firm smoothing brush – Creates a straighter style with less frizz and fewer flyaways.¹ With firm bristles engineered to control unruly, frizz-prone hair.

Soft smoothing brush – Creates a smooth, blow-dry finish. With soft, ball-tip bristles engineered to be gentle on the scalp.

Round volumizing brush – Directs air into the hair to give body, and the bristles create tension to shape hair as it dries.

Pre-styling dryer – Takes hair from wet to damp, ready for styling.”

Results: Incredible! The volume is literally next level. And it lasts for a few days!!! When does volume last for a few days, especially when you’re not going to a salon for a blow out? My hair is below shoulder height, I used to have really long hair but cut it to help get more volume (for context). I prefer the larger barrels for both the volume & the waves/curls it gives. The two smoothing brushes create soft silky strands while adding volume.

I do recommend using a little bit of product either a mousse while wet or a hairspray afterwards. I recommend anything from the Kevin Murphy line. It helps lock in that volume so you don’t have to style your hair as often, only after washing really.

I should also note, I have received so many compliments anytime I’ve styled my hair with this Dyson Airwrap.

Final Thoughts: I love this machine, I really do. I love this machine so much that I had the family pool in to buy my mother in law one for her birthday. If it wasn’t so damn expensive I would buy one for everyone of my family members because it truly is so good! BUT, I have to say it, IT IS WAY TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE!

$700 (CAD) for the Dyson Airwrap Styler, for a super advanced hair tool, FOR A HAIR TOOL!!! Is crazy! It’s absolutely absurd. But I look at it this way, with an average price of a blowout in Toronto running around $50-$60, after 14 uses the Dyson Airwrap Styler has essentially paid for itself. After that you’re saving money (kind of haha). And the fact that it doesn’t emit damaging heat, you’re helping to keep your hair & style & colour in better condition. Which, in theory, should help maintain your cut and colour longer.

I think this tool is perfect for people who enjoy styling their hair and for those who don’t. It is a fun tool to use and because the results last for a few days, it isn’t something you have to do every single day.

Will I Re-purchase? I sure as hell hope I never have to purchase The Dyson Airwrap Styler again. But, if I had to, I probably would.

Where To Buy? Sephora, Dyson site
