As a vegan blogger I get approached by a decent number of vegan clothing companies & I have yet to say yes!

Sadly, so many of these “vegan” clothing companies are trying to jump on a trend or cash in on the movement. While I’m all about promoting veganism to the world, I will never feel right about pairing with a company that doesn’t naturally align with me & my brand.

So when Jesse at Sarcastic Rhino reached out about the possibility of a feature, I of course had to check out their site 1st.

What I loved about the site was that, not only is Sarcastic Rhino an all vegan run clothing company BUT, they also promote a vegan lifestyle (for the animals) as well. They’re not JUST trying to sell you stuff but they’re also trying to help teach & share the movement.

And then after that, I said yes… 🤪

What is vegan clothing?

Vegan clothing in the broad sense is clothing that is not derived by animal products or labour. In fact, it can be said that sweat shops aren’t vegan because they are exploiting the work of our human animal friends.

But when you get past what the clothing is actually made from, vegan clothing can also be a form of vegan activism. When someone wears their favourite sports team on a shirt they are sharing their passion for that team with others. Well, when vegans wear vegan obvious apparel, they are doing the same thing!

The idea behind vegan clothing is to not only promote & support a vegan brand but to also raise awareness to others.

Who is Sarcastic Rhino?

I asked Jesse to answer some questions for us so that we could get to know the brand better.

Jesse is Canadian born and currently living in Alberta (that’s where I was born, don’t remember much though).

“I’ve been vegan for the animals since early 2015 after watching Earthlings & some pretty graphic slaughterhouse type footage. I literally went vegan overnight and have not looked back! Its truly one of, if not the best thing I’ve ever done for myself, in my life…. I used to be a pretty negative person & since going vegan I made many positive changes in my life, like quitting smoking (3 plus years now). I used to smoke a lot of pot & drink, both of which I no longer do. My attitude towards life is just a complete 180 and veganism has had a hand in that! I AM grateful 🙂”

I loved hearing this from Jesse! Veganism can have profound effects on us and in so many different ways. Remember my article, Veganism Isn’t A Diet? This is case in point, veganism is more than just what you eat, it’s an entire lifestyle!

Tell us more about Sarcastic Rhino!

I asked Jesse why they started Sarcastic Rhino & where they saw the brand going;

“I started sarcastic rhino because I saw a need for a more fashionable type of vegan apparel. I had prior experience because I had founded another clothing brand named Peacegang. I wanted to have a VEGAN themed brand as well. Peacegang is about positivity and changing the world but not centered on veganism, although 99.9% of our stuff is vegan. I also wanted to help spread the VEGAN message as much as possible and clothing is something everyone wears which is a great vehicle for a message. I also want to make a living doing so and help give back to the community.

I hope to one day be a recognized brand worn and talked about worldwide. But most importantly is to get VEGANISM up front and centre, to spread far and wide. The more animals saved the better and the more humans not exploited the better. I hope to help in some regard by supplying as much eco and sustainable vegan fashion as I can.”

Donating you said?

“I def want to start donating where I can because I believe it’s important to do so. As a matter of fact we donated some caps and such to an animal sanctuary in the us who reached out to us. They will be auctioning off these items to raise money for feed etc in the coming months. Being that we are still quite a small startup donating is not really possible as all of the profits go back into the business. As our SEO increases and thus site visitors and sales, we definitely will be looking for some great causes to support!”

I love that! I love when brands, even when they’re just starting up, have donating front & centre. It might not come right away but keeping it in your head that you want to give back is very admirable IMO.

So what do I think of this vegan clothing?

I think it’s fun & super cute. I love that I got to choose my own pieces to put together because I think it sends a more authentic message. Sure they could have sent me a toque & a hoodie but come on, it’s pretty hard to make a bad toque or a hoodie. They do sell those too btw.

But because these were pieces I could actually mix & match and wear, I felt more connected to the garments.

The little bucket hat is something I can see myself wearing all summer long. It is a very solid build & the fabric is quite durable.

I like that the bowler shirt is loose but when tucked in you don’t get a big build up of fabric poking around your pants giving you a lumpy butt look haha. It’s definitely a very versatile shirt & could be paired with a bunch of different looks. Like this, open, with a white crop tank & black bike shorts, white ankle socks & then their vegan chucks! So cute!

The shoes are adorable! They’re great quality too. They actually look just like my low top all black chucks, so well done!

Overall, Sarcastic Rhino is a wonderful little vegan clothing company. Communicating with Jesse was very easy & I wish nothing but the best for the brand.
