Pre-pandemic, I definitely spent too much time searching through Amazon to see what cool makeup gadgets I could find. As of late however, I’ve been trying to be more frugal because you never know when you might have needed that $20. So I tend to scour through less often. But, I will say that these 6 items are still covid/work worthy moving forward.
6 Covid Worthy Amazon Finds for Makeup Artists:
1. Samtour Makeup Train Case – ($144.52) I bought this makeup case in October 2019, just after finishing an intense summer of shooting Zombies 2 for Disney & Saw IX – Spiral. What I wanted was a more compact case to carry all of my palettes, powders, mascaras, pencils, etc. Pretty much to house all of my beauty makeup (I have separate cases for FX, hair, tools, etc.). This case has given me more mobility by allowing me to condense my products into this one case. It is perfect for daily work or quick jobs. I also really love that the compartments are customizable. The zipper is pretty heavy duty too. I will say, the mirror kind of got in the way & because I jam packed my case, I actually broke the mirror when I closed it. But, it works perfectly sans mirror.
There is also a back strap that allows for your Zuca handle to slide through so you can easily wheel it around. I have also been seeing some makeup artists have taken out the foam dividers & replaced them with plastic bins that compartmentalize in the same way. I think they’re doing that for easier cleaning and less chance of contamination.
2. Beaky Makeup Brush Drying Rack – ($12.99) Brush care has always been a big deal for me even before the pandemic. I’ve always been obsessed with having the softest brushes. But now that we have to be extra diligent (cleanse, sanitize, disinfect), I think brush care is even more important. These brush racks are more affordable than ones I’ve seen on beauty brand sites so that’s a huge bonus. And tbh, it’s legit the same concept. Works perfectly.
3. Under NY Sky No-Tie Barber Apron – ($30.99) I bought this nylon apron when I was doing a lot of airbrushing for the movie Zombies 2. I needed something that could easily wipe clean & protect my clothes from the makeup. It is also going to come in super handy now with covid as it gives an extra layer between you and your actors. It’s definitely something I’ll be wearing regularly during processing. What makes this one awesome is that there is no leather or suede anywhere. Which was surprisingly on so many other apron options. And the pockets come in handy for keeping things like hand-sanitizer, pens, your phone, etc.
4. RC Selfie Ring Light – ($17.99) Ok, this might seem random but these little selfie lights are so handy on set & not for what they’re meant for haha! So many of the sets/locations I was working on last summer were in old dark warehouses. So lighting was always an issue when doing on-set touchups or finals. These little selfie lights clip perfectly to a shirt collar/neck or to your apron, keeping your hands free for brushes & makeup, & you look like less of an idiot because you’re not wearing a flashlight on your head haha. But seriously, it really came in handy last summer & it kind of makes you look like Iron Man. This one has 3 light levels (low, med, high) & a flash mode.
5. Casemetic Foldable Clear Storage Organizer – ($26.31) This storage container is a perfect clear container for trailer setup. It is easy to clean & you can use it to stack/line-up your palettes for quick & easy access. I like using it to line-up all of my Illustrator/Alcohol based palettes. There are also little side pockets to house things like pens, eye drops, lash glue, etc. With everything changing so quickly, this case makes it easy to house the products that you’re currently using & gives you the ability to keep the used ones separate to be cleansed after use.
6. Honshen Folding Fan – ($13.98) I love to use big folding fans to help things dry, especially when you’re on-set & don’t necessarily have access to a blow dryer. I’ll use this to set lash glue, setting spray, appliance adhesive, etc. It also comes in real handy when you’re shooting in the summer & your actors are sweating their makeup off. It is also made of nylon so it’s super easy to keep clean & sanitized.

My sister and niece create huge themed Halloween parties each year. We all get into character and make up plays a big role in that. These are cool finds that I’ll share with them. We usually set up a dressing room and make up room for everyone to use after they arrive.
That’s so fun! I love Halloween & seeing all of the fun costumes people come up with.
All this stuff looks super useful and nice. I have little idea about make-up but would definitely like to have that ring light! That folding fan is so cool too, I have a couple at home already, very much needed in summer!
The fans are such a great all around tool for us to have, makeup artist or not! haha
