Letâs face it, veganism isnât going anywhere. Just like vegetarianism wasnât merely a fad in the 70s, veganism isnât only a new trend of the 2000s. So chances of you having to celebrate your favourite Holidays and Traditions in a different manner seems pretty likely at some point in your lifetime. Perhaps you yourself have gone vegan or someone in your family has made the switch, and maybe you would like to be more inclusive with what you can offer them to celebrate with you? Well Iâve got you covered with lots of great Vegan Easter knowledge & ideas! 🐰
Vegan Easter Chocolate and Treats
We all know that chocolate and chocolate eggs in particular are a big Easter tradition. Well, thereâs really nothing stopping you from carrying on this tradition. Vegan chocolate can be found pretty much anywhere nowadays.
Health Food Stores and even local grocers usually carry a range of different vegan chocolates year round and then when the holiday seasons arise, they tend to carry a seasonal assortment of more vegan chocolates. Depending on where you are in the world Amazon also has a variety of vegan chocolates to choose from.
Like these Amazon vegan chocolates here:
If youâre lucky, you might also live in a city that has a local vegan bakery. I have so many around me currently that I feel guilty sometimes because I canât possibly support them enough. I mean I could but I donât think it would be very good for my health. 😹
If youâre in the Toronto area I highly recommend Bunnerâs or in the Hamilton area, Coven is 💣.com.
Some traditions should stay in the past!
Please donât support animal exploitation by buying a bunny or chicks. I know they seem adorable and so sweet, and they truly are. They are so freaken sweet and that is why we shouldnât contribute to this industry that perpetuates a vicious cycle of breeding animals for our entertainment.
Most people who buy bunnies from pet shops or backyard breeders will usually end up getting rid of them. That means theyâve either sold them to a new caretaker or someone who will eat them, or theyâve surrendered them to an animal shelter where they will more than likely end up being euthanized. And for what? A wasted life for a few cute photos? Itâs so not worth it, I promise you, youâll feel better looking back on these memories without these sweet angels being harmed. Their life has value beyond our pleasures.
Painting Vegan Easter Eggs
I love doing any types of crafts. I donât really do enough of them these days but Iâm always down to do them especially with others. An Easter celebration tradition that doesnât have to âdieâ completely, Painting âEggsâ!
There are so many different types of alternative egg painting out there. Iâve seen parents cut out paper eggs, or using egg shaped sponges to paint with, but did you know that there are actually different types of âeggsâ that are vegan and can be painted on?
Amazon and craft stores actually carry a huge range of different types of egg shaped materials. They have some made out of wood, styrofoam, a squishy memory foam type fabric. They even make them out of different types of plastic that you can hide vegan candy & chocolates in which also serves perfectly during a Vegan Easter Egg Hunt. 😊 (Sidenote: All of these are reusable and you can store them for years to come. Just like traditional Christmas decorations, when you look back on them youâll remember decorating these eggs with your family.)
Why is the egg industry bad?
Did you know that more than 50 billion chickens are exploited by the egg industry and meat industry each year?
Did you know that egg-laying hens live in deplorable conditions. Like actually repulsive, they are confined to small cages made of uncomfortable wire. This wire cuts into their skin, rips out their feathers, and deforms & breaks their feet. Because they are stuffed and overcrowded in cages, farmers will cut their beaks and toes off so that they canât fight each other. 😿
Did you know that an egg-laying hen’s life expectancy is only 18 months old? These chickens are referred to as âSpentâ chickens. Whereas the average age of a free chicken is 8 to 10 years.
Did you know that chicks are sent to a sorting facility right upon hatching where plant workers sift through the baby chicks in a process called âsexingâ. Female chicks get sent to egg farms and male chicks are promptly slaughtered. They say about 6 billion male chicks die a year. 6 billion lives that are just wasted.

Final Thoughts on Vegan Easter?
I really hope you were inspired to incorporate some of these cruelty free Vegan Easter celebration ideas. I know that when I first started dating my now husband, it really made me feel welcomed into his family when his mother went above and beyond to host vegan dinners. She even does a vegan Christmas Dinner now every year. Iâll always love her for not treating me like a weirdo and for being so open minded. 😹💜

How To Celebrate A Vegan Easter in 2022- A Blog About Stuff
The vegan easter eggs are such a CUTE idea. Thought I had to throw that tradition out the window. Can’t wait to try.
Right?! I love that you can keep them for forever if you want or even gift them etc.
Wow! This is very eye-opening! It terrible that chickens are mistreated and good to know there are vegan options available.
It’s so sad right? But yes, I am so thankful for all of the cruelty free options now.
Thanks for the information – very informative and love the idea of using foam or wooden eggs for painting!
My pleasure
So interesting! Many things Iâd never considered before not being vegan myself. Iâve always been conscious of these things but I love that there are wooden eggs even for an alternative way to still decorate. Thanks for sharing!
I actually want to get some wooden eggs for myself as just a fun art project. I’d love to try a watercolour look on them.
With Easter around the corner this is a great way to be more cruelty free.
Great ideas!
Really enjoyable read đ makes such a big impact to feel included in transitions like these x
Totally agree! It changes everything.
I love how informative this blog post is. While you give tips on how to give a vegan some conscious gifts, you also added why not to exploit animals! Love it! â¤ī¸
Aw thank you!!! Trying to help our sweet animals as best as I can
I never understood buying bunnies or chicks for Easter!?!? But love the idea of vegan chocolate and even vegan bakeries?! Will have to see if there are any in my area!
So many bakeries are starting to offer vegan options as well, hopefully there’s one near you to try out
Greta post, especially thinking of others you may be hosting. I love that your now MIL did that for you. Great things to think about in this post!
Thank you! And yes, meant a lot that she did/does that. <3
We absolutely love the decorations that the kids have painted over the years. A basket full of wooden eggs would be a welcome addition!
I know, when I saw the wooden eggs and thought how nice it would be to collect the different artwork from each year it made me want to start painting them too haha.
Yes, I wish people would stop buying bunnies and chicks as Easter presents! I heard about it happening more when I was a kid, so I’m hopeful that this practice is dying out.
I think it’s becoming less popular thankfully but still so many ppl think that it’s a good idea
I would love to try some of those Vegan Bakeries in Toronto! Yum
So yummy!
These are excellent ideas! Fortunately I have a store that sells vegan chocolate. How I wish we had vegan bakeries in my area! There is a cafe at least that sells a few vegan desserts.
Love that you can access your vegan chocolate at least, life without vegan chocolate would be hard
I love the idea of giving kids “alternate” eggs to paint if they are vegan! Then they don’t have to feel like they are missing out on the fun!
I love the ideas for painting “eggs.”
Right? Just as fun but cruelty free! <3
You make me think about things I never thought about. Thank you for sharing the facts about chickens and bunnies life.
I love hearing that and truly it is my pleasure to help spread some of this information
I understand your stand on egg farms, but are you equally opposed to eggs that come from well cared for and beloved chickens?
I’m opposed to using animals for our gain in all shapes and forms. I believe we can and should live harmoniously with animals and do all that we can to protect and release them from the torment we’ve destined them too. It’s funny, in a very sad way, that mankind thinks that everything on this earth is for our use and consumption. There are many articles on backyard hens & eating their eggs if you’d like to take a look at them I’ll link some here for you. The bottom line for me is that it still perpetuates the breeding of chickens for our benefit and then the male chicks are still destroyed as they do not produce eggs. Therefore it doesn’t really change much. If you’re rescuing a chicken from a farm, chances are she’s no longer in her egg producing years anyways.

This is very interesting information! I’m all about the chocolate! Mmmm!
I never considered how challenging this might be!
Thanks for the info!
I’ve been really impressed with vegan chocolate and desserts….yum!
So many great advancements in vegan recipes over the past few years.
I was SO upset when I learned what happens to baby boy chicks. Makes me so so sad. We’re on our second Easter not decorating eggs now. It’s weird when you’ve done it forever. But, this year, I found white wooden eggs to paint or color with markers! I’m so excited that the kids will still get to decorate eggs! Yay! And I went crazy in the Target Easter candy aisle looking for vegan eats for the baskets. đ Happy Easter!
haha I love that! I wish Target would have done better here in Canada. I think you guys just get better products than our Targets did âšī¸
But I love that your fam can still have fun painting wooden eggs and then having a little collection of memories for more years to come <3
How have I not see those Moo Free chocolate eggs before?! Yum! I think I’m going to visit our local vegan bakery for some cookies this year actually. And I wish I could find dry erase eggs so my kids could keep redecorating them every year lol.
I haven’t actually seen them before either but I’m sure my local vegan grocer carries them. I love that I can say those words btw, “local vegan grocer”, I never thought I’d see the day haha. Ya, the dry erase eggs are such a good idea. And I’m sure you could seal them with hairspray or something so that they last for the holiday and then wash away.
Great information! Celebrating a holiday doesn’t mean you have to change your eating habits, this is a great post to prove that we all can stay on a healthy path even during holidays!
Very informative on Vegan Easter ideas!
Great post! I am so glad you included my number one must-have for Easter….candy! There are so many great alternatives available these days. I also love that you addressed bunny ownership. I rescued a bunny from a backyard hutch years ago…the family got tired of it a few weeks after Easter and it was horribly neglected. The bunny, Wilbere, was easily litterbox trained and lived out his life as a free roaming housebun. He was big (14 pounds!) and terrorized my three cats, each of whom were petrified of him – haha! Wilbere happened upon a bleeding heart like me, and luckily had an amazing life, but too many “Easter Animals” end up in shelters or worse. I am so glad you addressed this issue. Thank you!
Aww I love that you were able to rescue Wilbere and were able to give him the love and the life he deserved. 14 pounds!!! That’s awesome haha. <3
That is so sad about the chicks đ I am not vegan, but I do try to buy local eggs from people I know or at the very least (if I’m in a pinch) free-range from the store.
It’s very sad and I do appreciate your effort
