Native Deodorant Review – Vegan Wellness

Our underarms are a pretty important part of our bodies. Did you know that there are approximately 20 lymph nodes in each armpit? Lymph nodes are such an important player in your body’s immune system as they help filter out toxins & fight infections. That’s why it is so important to care about what we put on them and why I have been testing & trying so many different natural deodorants for many years. Initial Reaction: I was really excited to try this brand. I had been hearing a lot of hype about how amazingly it works & how it’s the only natural deodorant that has helped with Body Odour.  More & more people are demanding natural products because more and more people are trying to be more conscious of what they’re applying to their bodies.

The demand for natural vegan & cruelty-free products are real y’all. So much so that you will now see clean beauty, vegan, & cruelty-free labels on so many products nowadays.

When my 1^st package came I couldn’t wait to open the tubes up & get to sniffing. I chose the plastic-free versions because well, plastic sucks! And if I have the choice to be more conscious, I’m going to go that route. The tubes are sleek & you simply push the deodorant up through a hole in the centre of the tube with your finger, pretty straight forward/easy.

I bought the Cucumber & Mint, the Candy Cane (because it was just before the holidays), and the Citrus & Herbal Musk. They all smell amazing and exactly as their names suggest. And because these deodorants are made with natural ingredients, the scents are not overpowering or artificial in any way.

Usage: I received these in the mail on December 1^st & started using the Candy Cane tube right away. I still have a decent amount left and I think it will take me into February before I have to move on to the next tube. So that’s nearly 2 months of multiple daily applications.

I tend to apply deodorant before my workouts/in the am, after my workouts/shower, and sometimes before bed, that just depends on what kind of day it was really. That is under .22 cents a day, which doesn’t seem too bad to me.

Skin Concerns: I wouldn’t say I have skin concerns with my underarms per say, but I do get the occasional B.O. & I’m a sweater. Ugh, especially when my anxiety is on, I get stress sweats. But I don’t have any discoloration or ingrown hairs or anything like that. So a pretty normal underarm for the most part.  

Claims/Ingredients:

• Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
  • An oil made from coconuts that makes Native go on smooth
• Tapioca Starch
  • Extracted from the cassava plant and helps keep you feeling dry
• Ozokerite
  • Also known as earth wax and is great at naturally stabilizing all the ingredients
• Baking Soda
  • Also known as Sodium Bicarbonate, found in cakes and cookies – a natural and safe mineral that helps neutralize odor-causing bacteria
• Coconut Oil
  • Also known as Cocos Nucifera Oil – we can’t get enough of it – is packed with rich fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants
• Cyclodextrin
  • This sugar-based ingredient from starch that slowly releases additional scent throughout the day to keep you smelling fresh
• Shea Butter
  • Also known as Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, a great moisturizer that holds antioxidants and vitamins
• Glucose
  • A simple sugar (Dextrose) made from corn
• Probiotics
  • Lactobacillus Acidophilus are healthy bacteria found in your gut
• Magnesium Hydroxide
  • Also found in antacids like Milk of Magnesia, Magnesium Hydroxide partners with baking soda to help neutralize odor-causing bacteria

Results: If I could actually remember the amount of natural deodorants I have tried that have not worked you would probably feel sorry for me, haha. I’m not kidding when I say it’s probably in the 10-15 range.

Now, that being said, there is a detox process when switching from aluminum based deodorants to natural deodorants. So it is to be expected to have body odour come up & try to expel from your body.

However, after a couple of months with no resolve, you know that the deodorant just isn’t doing what it should. Granted, we are all different & what works for one might not work for all, so it is a trial and error game BUT…

Native Deodorant has been the one & only deodorant to keep the B.O. at bay ALL DAY LONG! Legit, the only natural deodorant that I have tried that actually works & they’re not even paying me to say this, haha.

It is not, however, an antiperspirant so it doesn’t stop you from sweating, which, in my opinion, is not a bad thing. Your body needs to sweat to help rid itself of heavy metals & toxins. So when we put harmful ingredients that are found in most antiperspirants/deodorants on our underarms, we’re potentially doing some harm to ourselves.

Keep an eye on these ingredients; Triclosan, Propylene glycol, Parabens, Synthetic fragrances, Aluminum. These ingredients have been linked to hormonal imbalance, Alzheimer’s disease, neurotoxin disruption, cancers, & more.

Final Thoughts: Until this product stops working I am set on being a life long user. It truly has been such a wonderful find for me. I was really struggling & even contemplating going back to deodorants with harmful ingredients.

I work in film, with Hollywood actors, I can’t be stinking up the makeup trailer because I’m a vegan hippie haha. I’m just relieved I finally found something that works.

To note: Native Deodorant is owned by Procter & Gamble. While Native is a vegan & cruelty-free company, it should be noted that their parent company is not. That being said, I personally do not buy Procter & Gamble products because I do not believe in the abuse and exploitation of animals for our gains.

However, I do support companies that are offering vegan & cruelty-free products because the more we demand these products the more they will begin to supply. You vote with your $$$. If you show them that we are demanding more vegan & cruelty-free products then eventually these companies will start changing their policies and practices.
