When vegans travel their top concern is always, “where or what will we eat”? It’s nothing to get discouraged over but it is something that might need some extra planning or effort. Depending on where I’m travelling to, I will actually plan out our trips based on which vegan restaurants I want to try out.
It can get a lot easier when you’re planning your vegan travel to a cabin, no matter how remote the area is. “Why” you ask? Well because all you need is a grocery store and if you’re concerned about what the local grocers may or may not carry, well then get your groceries before your road trip & just travel with them in coolers or insulated bags.
Where did we go?
My husband and I had an incredibly busy work year. Most of you would know that I shot 2 Pilot TV shows & a full 10 episode show this year. Which means I usually worked over 62 hours a week because that’s how film & tv life work 😅. My husband is a director/editor/producer & if he’s not on set he’s editing usually all day and many nights. So needless to say, we really needed a getaway.
We didn’t want to fly anywhere or travel too far so we decided on a relaxing getaway somewhere in Northern Ontario, Canada. Because I was still wrapping up my show I told my husband to just pick it all and plan it all for me/us and let me just tell you, HE DID SO GOOD!
Aaron found a beautiful log cabin in the South Bruce Peninsula which is near the Sauble Beach area. This cabin had ALL of the amenities and then some.
- Lake Access
- Fireplace
- Fire Pit
- Sauna
- Hot Tub
- Quiet & Private
- Big Comfy Bed & Bedding
- Beautiful Clawfoot Bathtub
- Laundry
- And way more space then 2 ppl need
Where did he find such an incredible log cabin? Airbnb!
I know there are other sites similar to Airbnb nowadays which is so awesome. When I travel, of course depending on where I’m going, I either like to be in a nice hotel or an Airbnb. I like being able to have my own kitchen and my own space in the town. It’s nice to feel like a townie sometimes right 🤪.
So, when in doubt, try Airbnb or other similar sites & apps. You can checkout where we stayed right here.
What did we do?
First of all, let’s start with what we didn’t do!
We did not:
- Turn on the TV
- Go on our Phones
We really wanted to unplug. With our careers we have to stare at computer, iPad, phone screens all of the freaken time. So this was a really great experience to just completely and fully disconnect. We listened to music but that was about all that we did on our phones.
We went exploring! Because the cabin was right across from the water, on our very first day we decided to go on a walk/hike. There was a beautiful trail that led us across the beach and then we continued on through the forest which led to another beach access point.
We wanted to have a healthy little vegan travel getaway so we carried on with a morning workout which mainly consisted of a run or walk followed by a yoga flow or some yin yoga. Then we would have breakfast and get ready to start our daily spa routine.
- Get the sauna’s wood burning started
- Get the fire pit burning
- Read a few chapters of Where The Crawdad’s Sing while the sauna gets nice & toasty (have you read this book? It’s incredible!)
- Fill our water bottles
- Have a quick cold rinse
- Get in the sauna
- Cold rinse
- Get in the hot tub
- Cool off in the hammock or by the fire pit
- REPEAT!!!
This was our daily schedule for the entire week pretty much & we enjoyed every second of it!
But what did we eat on this vegan travel you ask?
Vegan Chicken Parmesan using Gardein Chicken & Homemade Tomato Sauce Vegan Nachos using Beyond Meat Ground & Daiya Liquid Cheese Vegan Ravioli & Carbonara Vegan Soup w. Ramen Noodles, Crispy Tofu, & Veggies We tried this Vegan Steak & Kidney Bean Tin Pie Vegan Eggs & Bacon & Mimosa 😋
Basically everything! We had pasta, nachos, salads, smoothies, soup, ravioli, and all of the snacks! My husband being a Type 1 Diabetic always has to know that there’s enough food/sugars/carbs in the house incase he has a low reading. So before our road trip we went to our local vegan grocer, Coven and picked up any vegan snacks that we knew we would most likely not find at the grocers in the Bruce Peninsula.

Notes
- This vegan White Russian recipe is a fun drink that Aaron & I like to have whenever we’re staying in Airbnb’s and have access to a kitchen. It’s like a nice holiday treat.
Speaking of treats, we tried making vegan s’mores with little success. Is there a trick to getting the chocolate to melt or are S’mores deceptively less melty than TV makes them seem? 😅
So, as you can see, it’s super easy to do spur of the moment vegan travel trips. Road trips are actually the best way to ensure that you have all of your vegan needs before arriving to your destination. You don’t have to worry about what you’ll be able to find there because you will have already stalked up on all of the goodies beforehand.
My little baby 💜 FINISHED!!! 🙌 Elton of course wanted his own chair 😅
Also, most towns have a local grocer where you know you’ll be able to get all of your whole food needs. Vegan travel doesn’t have to be complicated so that’s why I wanted to share our little getaway with you all.

And if you’re in the Christmas shopping spirit I have a great article on Vegan Wellness gifts for everyone here.
Looks great. We are very aware of our animal protein intake and try to keep vegetarian several days each week.
That’s wonderful. Every bit does help our own health. Maybe try vegan a whole day too, the animals will thank you
Looks like great ideas and options!
Sounds like a wonderful vacay! Great location and great food! I would take that any day!
It looks like you had a wonderful, relaxing trip. We usually book through VRBO, but I agree it is the best way to find great accommodations.
I have yet to try VRBO but have seen lots of their commercials. Love that there’s so many options out there.
Brilliant! I am going to make Vegan Baileys as a gift 🙂
Mmm… it’s so yummy. Do you make it yourself?
This looks like such a great escape for you and your family! I love all the pictures of the fabulous airbnb you have and the food you make looks delicious for any person, vegan or not! Thanks for sharing your great escape with us!
It really was such an incredible time. And yes exactly, all of this yummy vegan food for all hehe! Thanks so much for reading
You make eating vegan seems so easy! I’ve been wanting to transition to a vegan lifestyle but have been reluctant to do so for some reason, but this is truly motivating! Also, what a BEAUTIFUL cabin. It sounds like you and your husband had an INCREDIBLE time.
I love hearing that. One day you’ll just do it and the only thing you’ll say is, “why didn’t I do it sooner”! If you ever have any questions or need/want tips, I’ve been vegan for over 21 years & I love to help others with their transitioning.
Really love all the food options! The nachos look so good, I want to make some for myself right now
I wish I had them right now too haha!
That cabin is beautiful! I’d love to live in one like that…full time!
Same! I wish it was ours.
That was very interesting and helpful, thank you for sharing your experience! 🙂 Amazing pics as well!
Thank you
This looks like a wonderfully relaxing trip. My nephew just decided to go vegan, so I’ll have to watch your posts for more tips.
Oh love hearing that. Reach out anytime if you need any tips or meal ideas for him.
Sounds like the most perfect vacation…relaxing and unplugged. Love it!!!
TY! It was much needed
What a wonderful week away! Love the cabin and the focus on caring for yourselves.
It truly felt amazing.
What a great trip! That cabin looks amazing. We usually take our own food when we travel as well.
It’s so much easier to have all of your favourite stuff with you!
Wow. I want links to all the meals you had so I can make those recipes lol!! They look so good. And what a wonderful retreat. You both needed it with how busy you’ve been! So glad you got to get away and relax. (And eat some awesome food!)
We didn’t even eat half of what we brought
Oh! This is such a healthy all over trip! Thank you for encouraging!
Aw my pleasure. It was much needed.
I also love having my kitchen when we travel. So much easier. What a stunning cabin. I’m glad you both had time to disconnect.
It feels nice being able to eat something homemade.
This Airbnb looks amazing, and I love all the different meals you were able to make while there. The nachos and soup looked the yummiest to me!
The nachos were a real hit. We make them often but for some reason they were extra yummy that night ♀️
Looks like a nice getaway. I would enjoy that!
And your vegan food choices? They look very tasty and satisfying! It’s not so hard to eat vegan.
Thanks for sharing.
